Title: Site Submission Offers Author: Michael Black, President Recently, the email below was received by my father. He asked me what I thought about the service offered by the sender. I thought this would be a good topic to discuss in an article because so many of these people are trying to take your money. To put this article in context, here's the email:
The first thing that I noticed was that the email address provided by Debbra couldn't possibly be hers. The address provided is owned by Network Solutions and there is no way that Network Solutions would authorize use of this address. If an email has a bad return address, it is most likely sent by a spammer. The next thing I noticed was the fact that this email plays on an idea that has long since been outdated. The email claims that unless you submit your site to search engines, they will never find you. Well, that's not 100% true. It may take them a little longer to find you if you don't submit, but they'll get around to you. Google became an ICANN registrar earlier this year which gives them the ability to obtain information about newly registered domains. You can bet that Google is using this information to crawl new websites. Another alarm that went off in my head regarding this whole idea of search engine submission was the fact that some engines specifically ask that you only submit your site's homepage and submit only ONCE. I visited Debbra's site and saw that one service her company offers repeatedly submits every page of a site to all of the "world's important search engines." Repeated submissions to some search engines, like Google, can get a website banned from that index. Why would anyone pay to get their site banned? The reason is simple... people are un-informed. If more people knew that this type of service, in my opinion, is a complete fraud, the industry would have a much better reputation. People like Debbra take advantage of site owners by making false promises, charging for something that can get a site removed from indexes, and just plain lying. If you've gotten this far, Congratulations! You know better than to sign with a service like this. Now, do your friends and fellow entrepreneurs a favor and spread the word. Back to the article list
